anthropogenic climate change

Only Connect

Now showing at Abel Contemporary Gallery in Paoli, Wisconsin June 9-July 23

This installation in the cooler exhibition space presents a new body of work that takes as its starting point meditations on anthropogenic climate change, and the interconnections that we can find in ecological systems and our own cultural concepts. Upon entering the long windowless tiled room you find your way partly blocked by a large structure into which you may look through small holes. The view revealed is a large model city, charred black and illuminated by glass clouds. some of whose forms have impressions of buildings in them .

beyond this structure at the back of the room you find a wall covered with framed pieces,  drawings, paintings and mirrors.  The framing glass on most of these is altered by engraving, etching or by having been hand blown, thus creating shadows or distortion or obscuring the drawing in some way.

Only connect! That was her whole sermon. Only connect the prose and the passion, and both will be exalted, and human love will be seen at its height. Live in fragments no longer. Only connect, and the beast and the monk, robbed of the isolation that is life to either, will die.

The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function.
